A weekly pour of Scripture and reflection.
On The Table: Espresso Shot of Scripture
“But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment.”
— 1 Timothy 6:6
Brewing Truth
Paul reminds Timothy that true wealth is not measured in possessions, status, or what others have. Contentment is not passive resignation but active trust in God’s provision. When godliness and contentment come together, the soul finds a richness the world can never counterfeit. Comparison steals joy; contentment secures it.
Pour-Over Perspective
Comparison always looks sideways, measuring worth by others. Contentment looks upward, resting in God’s care. When I chase what others have, I end up restless. But when I receive what God has given me, I find peace in the present moment. Contentment doesn’t dull ambition — it redirects it toward eternal gain.
World vs. Word
World says: “Get more. Be more. Have what they have.”
Word says: “Godliness with contentment is great gain.”
My follow: I will stop measuring my life by others and start treasuring it by God’s provision.
Grounds for Change
(Practical Steps)
This week, when comparison creeps in, try this practice:
Notice the Trigger → Ask: “What made me compare just now?” Write it down.
Name the Lie → Identify the false belief: “I’ll only be happy when…”
Speak Truth → Replace it with 1 Timothy 6:6: “Godliness with contentment is great gain.”
Give Thanks → Name three specific blessings you have right now.
Redirect → Take one action today that grows godliness instead of chasing comparison.
Stirred Well & Sipped Slowly
(Closing Prayer)
Lord, guard my heart from comparison. Teach me the gain of godliness with contentment. Let my eyes rest not on what others have, but on what You have given. May my life reflect gratitude, peace, and trust in Your provision. Amen.
